Is the Migrant Caravan Filled with Criminals?

The migrant caravan, which has been met with threats from Donald Trump, is the result of poverty, growing crime and repression in Honduras. The US has played a key role in propping up the government of Juan Orlando Hernández, who was responsible for the coup in the country. (NewsClick) For the thousands of Hondurans who are part of a migrant caravan proceeding towards the United States, the recent comments by US president Donald Trump were yet another instance of the persecution they have faced while trying to escape horrible living conditions. On Monday, Trump threatened the countries the migrants passed…

Apu from The Simpsons Getting the Boot

Apu the longtime Kwik-E-Mart owner on The Simpsons is closing up shop. A popular character will be written out of the long-running animated series “The Simpsons” after some viewers complained of it being a racially insensitive caricature. Does this mean the Kwik-E-Mart will go out of business? For nearly three decades, Apu was the Indian manager of this local convenience store in the show’s fictional town. Controversy started to brew last year with Hari Kondabolu’s documentary The Problem with Apu. It condemned the show’s use of stereotypical mannerisms and lifestyle of Indians from South Asia. “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening rebuked the controversy, disagreeing…

“It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.” -Deuteronomy 13:4 Quick Thoughts on Deuteronomy 13:4 Not much to say about today’s passage as it’s pretty clear. Deuteronomy is one of those books many don’t read because it’s not as fun or as easy to read. However, it’s still important and this is one of my favorite passages from the book. We are reminded today that the Lord in heaven is the one we must follow and obey. While following Christ means…

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”—2 Corinthians 10:3-5 Quick Thoughts on 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 We battle evil in this world every single day. We didn’t wage the war, but it’s up to us to follow Christ and use the weapons He…

“How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.” – 2 Samuel 7:22 Quick Thoughts on 2 Samuel 7:22 A powerful verse we should all remember. Sometimes, I think we tend to forget how great the Lord really is. We can get so caught up in the world around us that we forget to stop and remember how great our Lord in Heaven is and how nothing should come before God. In a modern society filled with so many distractions, it can…

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”—1 Peter 5:8-9 Quick Thoughts on 1 Peter 5:8-9 How true this is…the devil and his demons are always ready to pounce whenever we open the door. When we start to get down on ourselves, we get angry, we feel out of control or any time we are weak, the devil is ready to kick us while we are…

“Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”—1 Peter 2:9 Quick Thoughts on 1 Peter 2:9 Boy how this verse hits home. Once I was lost and now I am found is the story of my life and this verse from 1 Peter puts it right in our faces again. We cannot be a people or be found without Christ in our lives. We must have Christ or we are lost. It’s so important for us to remember every single day that…

“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” —1 Peter 1:24-25 Quick Thoughts on 1 Peter 1:24-25 What a powerful verse showing us that seasons change, but no matter what happens, the word of God will always be there. Technology can advance, we can become desperate, we can become distracted, but it doesn’t change the love Christ has for all His children. The Word of God will stand forever and gives us hope in a desperate world….
